WOW Rick! Your my hero. I love all your videos. one of the most informative resources I’ve found. Keep up the great work, and keep the “how-to” vids coming.
The wireing video still doesn’t work!!!…I beginning to think this site is a scam and your just looking for donations? If you google diy incubators you can get more info than your giving here! So Long!
That’s on me D-Rod. The plug in I was using to play the video sucked. Switched it to a youtube video. I’m 100% it works now on the website but I have also uploaded it to you tube also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cFcMLYI8C0
What was your humidity for the first 18 days and what was it for the last 3?
How long do you keep them in the cooler for before you move them to somthing else?
What temperature did you set your water heater thermostat at to turn the light bulb off?
I cant seem to find these awnsers anywere else. so your awnsers are greatly appriciated
Thanks
Relative humidity first 18 days 60-65% then greater than 70% for the last 3 days.
Then leave them in the cooler for about 24 hours or until they fluff out and dry
The water heater thermostat varies based on the size of your cooler and ventilation…. that part is really trial and error
i was watching you feeder you made out of a pail. the right idea just to big of holes. use a spade bit and make them 3/4 in . and your feeding your chickens way too good . mix 50 lbs cracked corn and 100 lbs of layer with a few pounds of what ever grit you are useing. corns alot cheaper then layer
That makes since. Feed cost continue to be a battle for us. Now with the higher gas prices feed continues to go up. Thanks for the advice. Do you think the chickens will stay lay eggs well with more corn?
Rick has his water heater switch mounted backwards. Is that correct way to mount it or no? Also, I have purchased everything he has and I am having no luck maintaing a good steady temp. It goes way too low or way too high. Am i doing something wrong or what?
Do you have the computer fan installed also? Also adding the water bowl at the bottom and maintaining the humidity helps control the temperature. The heater switch can be mounted either way. We drilled holes in the front of the cooler and at times covered them with tape to keep the temperature under control. Also change the wattage of the bulb. Keep us updated
When you built your home incubator did the temp
vary a few degrees. I built one similar to yours using a hot water heater themostat and the temperature varies between 99.9 to 96.9 degrees. Do you think this is ok to hatch chicken or quail eggs? Thanks for the DIY videos, they are great. Jack
Your temp needs to be 99-101. You can adjust the temp on the thermostat ( we also used a hot water heater thermostat), you can also adjust the temperature by increasing or decreasing the number of vent holes and by increasing the humidity by adding water, you can also adjust temp by changing the wattage of the light bulb. Be sure your incubator is an area that has a stable temperature. For instance- don’t have it in the coldest or warmest room of your home.
Get the temperature in range before starting your eggs. Do you know what kind of eggs you want to hatch?
PS these answers are for chicken eggs………… not too sure on temps for quail eggs.

Thanks so much for watching my videos.
hi there,
do you turn the eggs regularly, from day 1 to day 18?
many thanks,
Turn the eggs at least twice per day from day 2-18. On day 19 stop turning, increase the humidity, and keep the lid closed.
